Honestly, my wife and I had almost made up our minds to go with another garage door company but we thought we should at least contact a few others, get some bids, and assess the competition. And the short story is that Precision impressed the heck out of us and we decided to go with them. All through the process of choosing the doors, getting bids, staining and sealing the doors and getting them ready for installation (which we did to save money - we're both retired), and the installation - everything went perfectly. After the installation we noticed that the garage door light, as per manufacturer's specs, stayed on for more than 4 1/2 minutes and we thought we would re-program the opener but we had some difficulty. So I called Precision for some advice and the manager of the Seattle operation, Nick, came to our house, the same day that I called, and programmed it for us!!! Now that's service. I would totally recommend Precision to anyone who is interested in a new garage door or just maintenance on the one that they already have. (I've recommended them to my daughter and her husband who have a carport and want to turn that into a garage.)
Overhead Door® openers and garage doors are built with longevity in-mind. By performing a few routine tasks, you can help ensure your garage door system stays safe and stands the test of time. One important part of garage door system routine maintenance is to make sure the photo-eyes have not gone out of alignment. The photo-eyes are the infrared sensors which monitor whether the space at the bottom of your garage door is clear. When these sensors are not lined up properly they will keep your door from closing. Make sure to occasionally check your photo-eyes’ alignment to ensure they are correctly detecting obstructions to keep your garage door safe and operating properly.
Most wood doors are sectional roll-up doors, though a swing-up wood door that’s meant to be painted can be affordably built in the driveway from a wood framework and plywood. Custom wood doors are typically made of durable softwoods such as Douglas fir, cedar, redwood or cypress, or from hardwoods such as oak or mahogany. Appearance-grade hardwoods are relatively expensive.
Whether you are a new homeowner looking to personalize your home or you need to replace your existing garage door, Clopay® makes it easy to find the right choice for your home. Clopay doors are available in a variety of styles including carriage-house, raised-panel and modern, all with convenient overhead operation. Choose from a variety of colors, woodgrain finishes, materials and hardware to complement your home’s exterior.
Garage door springs come in two styles: torsion (see above), which mounts on the header above the door, and extension (Photo 1), which floats above the upper roller track. In the past, extension springs were safer to install but didn’t have containment cables running through the center of the spring. Without cable, these springs become dangerous, heavy whips when they break. They also tend to be noisier than torsion springs, and we recommend you use them only if you don’t have the 12 in. of headroom above the door that a torsion spring requires.
If you have a steel door, but want the look of a wood one, it is not necessary to change your entire garage door. Often, it may be possible to mimic the look of wood with skillful painting. Your local home improvement store may be able to provide good advice about the type of paint and brushes needed to mimic the look of wood for your particular door material.
Garage door springs: Springs act as a counterbalance to the weight of the door, and stretch or torque to provide enough force to move the door. There are three types of springs: extension springs, torsion springs and EZ-set torsion springs. Your garage door might need new springs if its alignment is off or if you raise the door halfway and it can’t stay up on its own.

Barry came out and replaced the broken cable on one of our garage door. He was very professional and took time to explain what he was doing and provided some tips on how to maintain the garage doors. He even greased the chain and the roller track on one of the garage door. I gave 4 star as I found the price of the cables seems to be a little higher than the other competitor but I would definitely use them again if ever my garage doors need fixing again. Just a tip to others, they replace things in pairs even if only one is broken (i.e. cables or springs).
